SMU Lacrosse In Action This Weekend/Game Broadcasted Live Over the Internet - Feb 27, 2009
SMU Lacrosse invites you to come out to the Hilltop and watch college lacrosse at its finest this weekend.  The Mustangs are fresh off a big overtime victory against the #18 ranked University of Texas Longhorns last Friday night in front of 1,000 fans at the Episcopal School of Dallas.  The team followed that up with another big win on Saturday against LSA North and DFW rival, TCU, in Gerald J. Ford Stadium.  The Mustangs were rewarded earlier this week with their first Top 25 ranking in the history of the program.  SMU is currently #20 in the country with a 6-0 (3-0 LSA North) record heading into the weekend.

On Friday night, the Mustangs will host the University of Mississippi (4-1, 3-0 GRLC) at 7:00 PM at the Intramural Field between the fraternity houses and Moody Coliseum.  The Running Rebels are making a return trip from last year’s game in Oxford, MS, that resulted in a 10-8 victory for SMU.

On Sunday, #20 SMU will host #14 Lindenwood (1-0, 0-0 GRLC) for a 12:00 PM faceoff in Gerald J. Ford Stadium at SMU.  Admission is $5 for adults to help the team pay for the facility.  Led by 2008 MCLA 1st Team All-American, Michael Coursault, Lindenwood will bring an extremely talented and experienced team to Dallas for what should be a great game.  Additionally, the host team will be raffling off four free rounds of golf at some of the best courses in the DFW Metroplex.

For those of you unable to attend and still interested in watching, the game will be broadcasted live over the internet at no cost.  Please follow the link and the instructions below.  Thank you all for your continued support of SMU Lacrosse.

LSA Lacrosse At Its Finest - Feb 20, 2009

For Immediate Release (Dallas, TX) – LSA Lacrosse At Its Finest

SMU Lacrosse

Friday Night Lights

On Friday, February 20th, the SMU Mustangs will faceoff against the Longhorns of UT in front of what should be an enormous crowd at the Episcopal School of Dallas.  Word has spread like wildfire among the North Texas lacrosse community of the game that positions two of the league’s top teams.  According to the CollegeLax.us MCLA Division I Preseason Poll, Texas was awarded the #23 ranking in the country while SMU was given what most would interpret as the #27 ranking with the second most “also receiving votes.”

Both teams added great recruiting classes last fall that seem to have meshed well early in the season with strong veteran players.  The Mustangs (4-0, 2-0 LSA North) look to avenge last year’s LSA Semi-Final loss to the Longhorns (3-0, 2-0 LSA South) in Texas Stadium.  According to SMU’s new head coach, Alex Poole, his Mustangs are up for the challenge Friday night.

On his SMU squad:

“I think our team is making steady progress on a daily basis.  Our senior leadership is outstanding.  If we were peaking right now, I would be not only surprised, but nervous as well.  We hope to be playing our best lacrosse come April and May.  All I ask is that my guys leave everything on the field.”

On the Texas Longhorns:

“This weekend will be a great test for our squad.  The Longhorns have always been a top notch team, and this year is no different.  Coach Fink has done a fantastic job building his program.  They are very deserving of their #23 national ranking.”

LSA Day of Rivals

On Saturday, February 21st, SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium will be the host of some terrific lacrosse and rivalry matchups within the Lone Star Alliance.  At noon, SMU will start the day off by playing DFW Metroplex opponent, TCU.  The teams are excited to once again bring the Battle for the Iron Skillet to the lacrosse field.

According to TCU’s head coach, Mark Miller:

“We are extremely excited to continue an existing rivalry between SMU and TCU.  The fact that we can showcase this game to a fresh audience, in such a great arena is a credit to all those involved for this event.”

“With so much Dallas talent on the team the kids are excited to play in front of family, friends and fans.  It is an opportunity that every athlete hopes they can experience during their careers.”

Coach Poole of SMU says:

“Coach Miller at TCU is doing a great job developing his athletes as well.  The Horned Frogs will present another high quality opponent for Saturday's match up.”

Later in the afternoon, the UT Longhorns will be back in action against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.  This game is always a tough one as the football rivalry has most certainly translated to the lacrosse field.

Bryce Wolf, Texas Tech team president, says of the event:

"This event will help the kids in Texas see that the NCAA is not their only option for college lacrosse.  The LSA has many great teams, and this weekend will allow Texans to see the LSA's high level of skill and competition from these four teams."

Coach Noah Fink of Texas echoes those sentiments and is gearing up for the entire weekend of lacrosse:

Texas is looking forward to the event.   We are always excited to get on the field to compete and both SMU and Tech are great competitors.  Every year we try to play games in both Dallas and Houston to increase the exposure of the college lacrosse being played in Texas.  In the last few years, high school players have been increasing choosing to stay in state and play in the MCLA in lieu of heading off to DI or DIII programs.  We really feel that this event and this type of exposure is helping with recruiting for all the Texas schools.”

Coach Poole agrees:

Lacrosse is growing so quickly at both the local and national level.  ESPN will be broadcasting nearly 40 NCAA lacrosse games this year alone.  This weekend will be a great opportunity for the Lone Star Alliance to showcase our great student-athletes.  The atmosphere should be amazing!”
